Filming your clip

Last updated 20 October 2026

How to film a clip your coach can really help you with.

The better your clip, the more your coach can tell you. A few minutes setting it up is worth it.

What works best

  • Get someone else to film. A friend on the shore or in another boat gives a much better view than a camera on your deck.
  • Film from the side, level with the boat and about 5 to 10 metres away, unless your coach asks for a different angle.
  • Keep the whole boat and paddle in frame, from bow to stern and blade tip to blade tip.
  • Paddle normally for at least 20 strokes, or try the skill several times. Your coach wants to see your usual technique, not your best single attempt.
  • Hold the phone sideways (landscape) and keep it steady.
  • Calm, bright conditions make it easier to see what's happening.

Your coach may add their own tips. You'll see them on the booking page under Before you film.

How long

Each review has a longest clip length, shown on the booking page and the upload page. If your clip is well over it, we delete it and email you to upload a shorter one; your booking stays open.

Trim your clip on your phone before uploading. Shorter files upload faster, especially on mobile data.

Still stuck?

Paddlers, message your coach from your review page first; they know your booking best. Anyone can email us at hello@bradancoach.com.
